Why Give to Scouting?
As a worldwide brotherhood, Scouting is unique. It is based on the principles of loving and serving God, of human dignity and the rights of individuals, and of recognizing the obligation of members to develop and use their potential. It is a movement dedicated to bringing out the best in people. Scouting doesn’t emphasize winning as an end result, but rather the far more demanding task of doing one’s best and always striving to be prepared for the future.
Youth join Scouting because they want to have fun. For them, however, fun means a lot more than just having a good time. “Fun” is their word for the satisfaction they get from meeting challenges, having friends, feeling good about themselves, and feeling they are important to other people. While they are having fun and doing things they like to do, Scouts also learn new things, discover and master new skills, gain self-confidence, and develop strong friendships.
When Scouting can help nurture courage and kindness and allow youth to learn, to laugh, to develop their imaginations, and to experience outdoor adventure, then we will have helped them grow. We want young men and women to become useful and stable individuals who are aware of their own potential. Helping youth to learn the value of their own worth is the greatest gift we can give them.
How to Give
Become a Volunteer
Volunteering is the key that unlocks the confidence young men and women need to stand on their own two feet. But it also opens the door for adults to share inspiring experiences with their own child, make friendships that will last a lifetime, and put a bunch of good youth on the path to a great life. Make a Monetary Donation
It feels good to know you make a measurable difference in the lives of young people in our community, your neighborhood, and your family. Your support is essential to helping the Blue Grass Council continue its mission to positively change the lives of thousands of young men and women throughout central and eastern Kentucky. There are many ways you can support Scouting through a monetary donation: you can contribute to the annual Friends of Scouting campaign, you can attend a fundraising event (like the Bluegrass Blast), and you can even make an online donation quickly and easily. Learn more about the reasons for supporting Scouting financially here.
Support Camp McKee
Every year, hundreds of Scouts use Camp McKee to experience the outdoors and learn more about Scouting and about themselves. To continue providing this experience, the camp is in need of working vehicles and equipment, units who can adopt a campsite or camp building, and volunteers to complete service projects throughout the camp. Learn more about how to support Camp McKee here.
Share Your Skills
Bringing the Scouting program to youth often requires specialized skills in areas like electrical work, plumbing, graphics design, HVAC, and photography, just to name a few. If you have specialized skills like these, you can use them to make a huge difference for local Scouts by giving of your time and effort to support Scouting. Learn more about using your skills to benefit Scouting here.
Safeguard Scouting’s Future
What if you could ensure that your gift would continue to benefit Scouting in perpetuity? Through the endowment, you can. Giving to the Blue Grass Council’s endowment fund means that the interest earned on your initial gift will continue to provide support for local Scouting for years to come. Plus, there are many recognitions and awards available to accompany your donation. Learn more about safeguarding Scouting’s future through endowment here.
What Your Gift Will Do
Since 1910, the Scouting program has been shaping the lives of America’s youth, instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. Scouting exists because of the volunteer and financial support provided by the community. The best way to support Scouting America is by making a contribution directly to the Blue Grass Council.
By giving to your local council, you are directly supporting Scouting programs where you live — programs that clean up your parks, gather food for the needy, and even help your community prepare for disaster.
The Blue Grass Council is funded by a variety of sources, including direct contributions, events, annual popcorn sale, foundation grants, the United Way, and program/activity/camping fees. With your support, the Blue Grass Council can bring the nation’s highest quality Scouting programs to many more youth throughout 55 counties with in Kentucky.
